A drunk man has been jailed after calling a police station and threatening to bomb them - then launching a racist tirade against the officers sent to arrest him describing them as ‘white b******s’.

Tariq Khan, 49, first made the phone call in the early hours of the morning on Saturday June 6.

Officers sent to arrest Khan, of Crumpsall, found him in a takeaway where they tried to speak to him, but he was ‘highly intoxicated’, Manchester Magistrates Court heard.

The incident escalated when Khan went outside, as he became abusive to officers and used racist language towards them.

As he became increasingly aggressive, officers took him to the ground in an attempt to restrain him, but he kicked out and hit the leg of the female officer.

The officers were concerned he may have spat at them as they heard him clear his throat, so placed a spit hood over his head.

Khan did not spit at them, the court heard.

Pleading guilty to charges of sending a communication conveying a threatening message, assaulting an emergency worker and racially aggravated words or behaviour, Khan was sentenced to 32 weeks imprisonment.
